Safed Mooli, also known as White Radish, is a popular vegetable in Indian kitchens prized for its crisp texture and mild spiciness. It features a cylindrical shape with smooth, white skin and tender, juicy flesh. Safed Mooli is commonly used fresh in salads, pickles, and as a crunchy accompaniment to various dishes. It grows well in Indian climates, especially during the cooler months, making it a versatile and nutritious addition to home gardens."

Care Instructions for Sowing and Planting:

  • Sowing Time: Safed Mooli seeds can be sown directly in the soil from late summer to early winter, ideally in cooler months.
  • Soil: Choose well-drained, loose soil rich in organic matter. Ensure the soil pH is neutral to slightly acidic (pH 6.0-7.0).
  •  Sowing Depth: Sow the seeds about 1/2 inch deep and 2 inches apart in rows that are 12-18 inches apart.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Radishes require regular watering, especially during dry spells.
  • Sunlight: Plant in a location that receives full sun for at least 6 hours a day.
  • Thinning: Once seedlings are a few inches tall, thin them to ensure proper spacing (about 4-6 inches apart) to allow for root development.
  • Fertilization: Radishes are light feeders. Incorporate compost or well-aged manure into the soil before planting. Additionally, a side dressing of balanced fertilizer after thinning can be beneficial.
  • Pest and Disease Control: Keep an eye out for pests like aphids and flea beetles. Practice crop rotation and remove any diseased plants promptly to prevent spread.
  • Harvesting: Safed Mooli matures in about 3-4 weeks after sowing. Harvest when the roots reach about 1-2 inches in diameter by gently pulling them from the soil.
